Bicyclists pedal toward Hancock to escape smog

Some cyclists traveling along the 28-mile Western Maryland Rail Trail in Hancock cancelled their group ride to New Jersey to avoid last week’s haze from Canadian wildfires that settled in for a few days along the eastern seaboard. “Our trip was cancelled due to the smoke, so we came to Hancock to ride. The air is much better here. Plus, June is perfect for biking, after the spring rains end, and before it gets too hot,” said Andy, from Gaithersburg, who was staying at the Super 8 in Hancock.
