In about two months, the C&O Canal will once again host barges in its waters as Hancock’s “Barge Bash” returns to town on June 17.

Festivities and registration starts at 1 p.m. along Canal Street in Hancock. The parade of barges on the canal starts at 3 p.m.

There will be craft vendors, food vendors, non-profit organizations, churches, live music, and a great time, organizers said.

There is an entry fee.

Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded for barge winners.

There were two attempts to revive the popular Barge Bash event in Hancock in 2019.

The first came in November 2019 when Hancock in Motion announced during the town meeting they were planning one for June 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic put that event on hold.

The second revival attempt was at the December town meeting that same year when then Town Manager Joe Gilbert said a resurrected Barge Bash would be held the last weekend of August 2021 during the World Canals Conference in Hagerstown.

That plan didn’t materialize, but organizers have taken on the community event once again.
