Michael Francis Stanger
1953-2026
Michael Francis Stanger, 73, of Great Cacapon, W.Va. passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026 at War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born on February 24, 1953 in Miami, Fla., he was the son of the late Francis Coleman and Jean T. Antonelli Stanger.
Michael was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He was a graduate of T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va.
He was a senior construction superintendent with Perini Construction and Shockey Construction.
He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #12191 of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and a West Virginia Immediate Past State Deputy with the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Chad Ferguson (Raudel Caldera) and Shae Nelson (Bryan), five step grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, one niece, Christie Stanger and two nephews, Kristopher Justice and Coleman M. Stanger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Lynn Gotcher Stanger and one sister, Rosemary Stanger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 67 Liberty Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with the Rev. Fr. J. Stephen Vallelonga as celebrant. Burial will be in the Stanger Family Cemetery.
The family received friends at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Michael to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 634, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
