Parade marches on as Hancock celebrates annual Halloween tradition

by Geoff Fox

If Hancock Rotary could have requested a perfect night to hold their annual Halloween Parade each year, last Wednesday would have been the night they’d want to duplicate each year.

One of the oldest and longest running Halloween Parades in the country, the Hancock Rotary sponsored their 79th annual parade on October 28.

People started lining Main Street a little more than an hour before the parade started at 7 p.m. By the time the parade got underway, hundreds of people were sitting or standing on the sidewalks ready to watch the parade.

There were a few stands selling treats, including the Hancock Lions Lioness Club and their famous funnel cake.

The Hancock Lions Lioness Club were serving up their famous, and tasty, funnel cakes before and during the Halloween Parade last Wednesday evening, October 28, to those who wanted a snack.

One constant at the parade was there again this year as vendors pushed their stuffed shopping carts peddling their goods.

In all, 56 entrants made their way east on Main Street with Sgt. Shawn Faith and Mayor Roland Lanehart leading the way in Faith’s police vehicle.

Behind the police were the American Legion Color Guard and bands from Hancock, Southern Fulton, and Berkeley Springs; floats; fire and rescue apparatus from Hancock, Needmore, Great Cacapon, Longmeadow, Orleans, and Berkeley Springs; floats from various groups and businesses; classic cars and tractors; dancers; families; and politicians.

When the parade was over, there were a number of winners decided by the judges and Rotary.

Those winners were:
