1940-2026
Richard Filmore “Dick” Young, age 86, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Friday, October 30, 2026 at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born July 14, 1940 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. he was the son of the late Albert Arbutus and Mary Catherine Fox Young.
Richard was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
He was a 1958 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
After graduating, he worked at Pennsylvania Glass Sand and then went to school to study electronics. He worked part time at Joe’s Radio Shop in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. From there, he worked doing electronic repair work in Hagerstown, Md. for 15 years and finished his career working for Clark’s in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, gardening and range and pistol shooting. He was a previous member of the Izaak Walton League of America, Leetown Chapter, where he enjoyed participating in shooting matches and made many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Jean Kyne Young, just one day shy of their 68th anniversary, at home, his daughter Kathy Merchant (Mike) and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William A. Young.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Rev. Fr. J. Stephen Vallelonga officiating. Interment will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
