by Geoff Fox

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints outside of Hancock held their second annual Festival of Trees last weekend with 20 organizations and businesses bringing in and decorating trees for the event.

There were also over 40 nativity scenes on display as well.

Organizer Wendy Weller said there were new games and Letters to Santa added to the Kids Corner this year. A new backdrop was also added to the photo booth.

Weller said almost 200 people from the community attended over the course of the two nights the Festival of Trees was open.

They enjoyed refreshments, music, a nativity video, and a family history center.

The Hancock Girl Scouts and The Farm at Coco’s Corner made and served cookies, Berkeley Springs Healthcare Center provided hot chocolate, and Martha’s House assisted with activities and crafts in the Kids Corner.

Trees were voted on in five categories.

Hancock United Methodist Church and Community Friends won “Best Exemplifies Theme,” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints won for “Best Tree Topper,” St. Thomas Episcopal Church won for “Most Festive,” V alley Electric for “Most Unique,” and M&T Bank won for “Kids Choice” for the second year in a row.
