Hancock held its annual National Night Out last Tuesday, August 4, in Widmeyer Park giving folks a nice night with their family and friends.
Organizations and businesses had tables set up across the park’s open space with activities, goodies, snacks, and information.
There were bounce houses for kids to let off some energy as well as the Joint Training Commission with inflatable games like soccer and archery.
A monster truck, called Hurricane Force, stood tall in the park as a mini monster truck, called Tropical Storm, stood in front. Both were blocked off so people wouldn’t climb on them or ride them.
The night kicked off with Shannon McKinley singing the National Anthem and Mayor Roland Lanehart welcoming everyone.
The mayor also thanked those who sped through the cameras in the school zone for helping to pay for the night’s festivities through their tickets.
For those who needed a bite to eat, the Hancock Lions Club served hot dogs, chips, and a bottle of water at the Lions Pavilion.
Folks also took shelter under the roof of the pavilion to get out of the sun.
Members of various law enforcement agencies were also on hand to join the Hancock Police, Hancock Fire Department, and Hancock Rescue Squad at the event.
One of the more popular places in the park was the splash pad as kids and adults could cool down with the spraying water.
There were also pickleball matches and 3-on-3 basketball games going on during the evening.
All the while, Take Two performed live music.
The night wore down and tables were being dismantled around 8 p.m., however no one left the park.
At 9 p.m., a loud boom and a flash of light signaled the start of the fireworks show that lasted roughly 11 minutes.
As the fireworks ended and smoked enveloped Widmeyer Park, everyone cheered and began heading to their cars to close the night.
