Ice Cream Trail cools down Washington County this summer

by Geoff Fox

As the temperatures get hotter, there’s one thing that can help beat the heat this summer – ice cream. And on June 4, Washington County kicked off their annual Ice Cream Trail.

The 2024 Washington County Ice Cream Trail started June 4 and runs through the last day of summer, which is September 21, and offers residents and visitors a delicious way to explore Washington County.

There are 11 ice cream shops listed on the map with Buddylou’s Ice Cream being the stop in Hancock.

Other sops include Deliteful Dairy (Williamsport), Maugansville Creamery (Maugansville), Misty Meadow Farm Creamery (Smithsburg), Mountain Top Ice Cream Shop (Cascade), Nutter’s Ice Cream (Sharpsburg), Potomac Street Creamery (Boonsboro), Scoop-A-Licious & More (Williamsport), Sweetsies’ Eats & Treats (Clear Spring), The Big Dipper (Hagerstown), and Cow’s Cones (Boonsboro).

The Washington County Ice Cream Trail is designed to highlight the best local ice cream shops in the area, providing a fun and tasty journey for ice cream enthusiasts of all ages.

Participants are encouraged to visit each stop on the trail and enjoy the unique flavors and support the local businesses.

To join the trail, participants can download the official Ice Cream Trail map from the Washington County website at washco-md.net/icecreamtrail.

The map includes all the participating ice cream shops and details on how to complete the trail.

Once the map has been downloaded or picked up at any of the locations on the trail, visit each show and enjoy the ice cream. You then get your trail passport stamped at each location.

You can then submit the completed map online form or via mail.

Everyone who completes the trail by the end of the summer will receive a free commemorative t-shirt to celebrate their accomplishment.

“It’s a perfect way to enjoy the summer, support local businesses, and earn a fun keepsake,” organizers said.

For more information, you can visit the same website or join the Washington County Ice Cream Trail Group on Facebook to connect with others on the trail.
