National Night Out Tuesday, August 2

Next Tuesday, August 2, Widmeyer Park will be a busy place as folks from around the Hancock park for National Night Out. National Night Out begins at 6 p.m.

This year’s event will once again have free food prepared by the Hancock Lions Club with hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and water.

Take Two will provide musical entertainment.

There will be police agencies from around the area gathered at the park. Maryland State Police, Washington County Sheriff’ s Office, and other agencies will join Hancock Police, who in conjunction with the Town of Hancock is sponsoring National Night Out.

Officer Shawn Faith of the Hancock Police Department said he won’ t know exactly what other agencies or demonstrations would be at National Night Out until the of the event as they’ve been invited but not yet responded.

Faith did say there would be a K-9 demonstration, however he wasn’t sure what department would be giving the demonstration.

Tuesday, August 2, is National Night Out, sponsored by the Hancock Police Department and the Town of Hancock. NNO starts at 6 p.m. in Widmeyer Park.

There will things to do so the kids can keep busy.

Returning this year will be Hub City Inflatables with their bounce houses and climbing inflatable and Joint Force Training with their ever popular soccer laser tag, soccer ball pool, and other activities.

Organizers said there is going to be a foam machine at this year’s National Night Out. They advise parents and guardians to bring a change of clothes or swimsuits if the kids want to play in the foam. It is a non-toxic foam.

There will also be a basketball tournament held on the basketball court as well.

Various local businesses and groups will have display and information booths set up throughout the park.

And of course, what would National Night Out be in Hancock without fireworks?

The fireworks display will start at dark, organizers said. With National Night Out, there are still some businesses and groups who haven’ t gotten back to the town offices to let them know if they are participating.

Organizers said if you were going to participate in National Night Out and haven’t responded, you are asked to call the town office at 301- 678-5622 or email [email protected] to let them know if you plan on setting up or not by 3 p.m. on Friday, July 29.
