Shirrell Jean Proffitt
Our beloved mother, Shirrell Jean Proffitt, 91 years old, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at her home in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Shirrell and her family were residents of Northern Virginia prior to her retirement and moving to Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
She retired after 30 years of services from Giant Food Grocery.
She is survived by her children, Cathy Swanigan of Polk City, Fla., Judy Proffitt and James Proffitt, Jr., both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Shirrell was preceded in death by her husband, James Proffitt, Sr. and one son, Richard Proffitt.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, with Pastor Rodney Truax officiating. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until services at the funeral home on Monday.
