Jacquelyn Marie Lewis

Jacquelyn Marie Lewis, age 73, of Great Cacapon, W.Va., passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026 at War Memorial Hospital.

Born December 16, 1952 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Madeline DiBattista Apici.

She was a high school graduate.

Jackie had a love of life and brightened up the room when she entered it. She traveled the world as an Army brat and regaled people with her tales and knowledge of her days traveling throughout Europe and even the Middle East.

After settling in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. she opened Cozy Critters Pet and Feed store where her love of animals and people shined. Many adults have stopped her to say how they remember going to her pet store as kids. Later she worked with pet rescues, animal shelters, and served on the board of Give Purrs a Chance. She fostered over 40 dogs and countless cats over the years helping them find their forever homes. She also took great pride in her beautiful garden and worked tirelessly making her home a place to be proud of.

Her infectious smile and wonderful laugh will be so sadly missed. She achieved what life is all about, being loved beyond compare and sharing happiness with everyone she met. J

ackie is survived by her partner of 20 years, Robert Joseph Cartmill at home and his children, Sarah Elizabeth Frercks (Dylan) and Ian Cartmill (Morrigan), all of Charleston, three grandchildren, Connor, Maura and Amelia.

Services and burial will be private.
