Neil Parrott has been sworn in to fill the Washington County Commission seat left vacant when Derek Harvey resigned from the board in February.
The Washington County Republican Central Committee nominated Parrott and Governor Wes Moore appointed him to the board on March 26. State senators confirmed the appointment on April 8, and Parrott was sworn in on April 21 at the commissioners’ meeting.

Parrott has previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2011 to 2023 representing District 2B from 2011 to 2015 and District 2A from 2015 to 2023.
From 2011 to 2018, Parrott was a member of the Judiciary Committee, Assistant Minority Whip from 2015 to 2021, and a member of the Environment and Transportation Committee from 2019 to 2023.
Parrott unsuccessfully ran for U.S. House of Representatives in Maryland’s 6th congressional district in 2020 and 2022 when he lost to incumbent Democrat David Trone. He would attempt another run at the House of Representatives in 2024, but was defeated by Democrat April McClain Delaney.
In 2016, Parrott and his family founded the Hagerstown Area Summer Swimming program to promote water safety, healthy competition, and youth development. As head coach, he helped grow the program to serve more than 1,000 swimmers across Washington County.
Parrott has also partnered with the Boys and Girls Club and the City of Hagerstown to provide affordable swim lessons to local children.
Parrott is a lifelong Maryland resident and resides in Washington County with his wife, April, and their three children. Parrott was also an Eagle Scout.
Parrott’s first county commissioner’s meeting was yesterday, April 28.
