Pizza Hut in Hancock closed for business

Hancock’s oldest remaining pizza restaurant closed on Monday, September 15 after decades in business.

Pizza Hut on Monday, September 15, its last day open.

General Manager Jessica Crone answered the phone on Monday and confirmed to The Hancock News that Monday was the last day the restaurant would be open.

Crone had posted an announcement about the closure on a Facebook forum last week.

The restaurant is located at 224 West Main Street.

Crone has been employed at the Pizza Hut for 14 years. She said they weren’t doing anything special on Monday to mark the closure of the business. Employees were selling the rest of the inventory that was available on hand, she said.

Crone said she wasn’t told much detail about the closure, just that it was influenced by the income ratios for the Pizza Hut location.

Hancock’s Pizza Hut is owned by Chaac Foods, LLC of Irving, Texas.

The Hancock News requested a comment on Monday from Chaac Foods about the reason for the closure and their future plans for the property, but no response was received by press time.

One rumor on the social media announcement of the restaurant closure was that the property was to be taken by the state highway administration for a new off ramp or bridge in Hancock.

A spokesperson for the Maryland Department of Transportation told The Hancock News on Monday that the Pizza Hut parcel has not been part of long-term discussions about the U.S. 522 bridge.
