Over 3,500 plants were given away to over 200 people at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints annual plant event on
Saturday, May 31. The church held the plant giveaway for the two-hour event.
Volunteers and community partners donated vegetables, herbs, flowers, seeds, and time to educate those who showed up.
Organizer Wendy Weller said a “whopping” 3,682 plants were given away to the 216 people who attended the giveaway.
She said in the future, the Plant Giveaway will be held on the first Saturday in June.
Those businesses and organizations that donated to the event include Blossom Point Greenhouse of Maugansville, Creek View Farm Market of Berkeley Springs, Glascock’s Produce of Berkeley Springs, Great Cove Farmers Market (Old Dott Store) of Warfordsburg, H&M Greenhouse of Hagerstown, Mock’s Greenhouse and Landscaping of Berkeley Springs, Rocky Lea Mulch of Williamsport, Stoner’s Florist and Greenhouse of Hancock, Fulton County Medical Center’s Long Term Care, the Hancock Congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Master Gardeners from Washington County, Morgan County CEOS Garden Club, and Hancock Veterans Memorial Branch Library.
