Students take field trip, multicultural night to be held

Students at Hancock Middle-Senior High School are learning about other languages and cultures in more ways than one.

Students in Hancock Spanish classes have been busy bringing their learning to life by going on a number of field trips including one on Thursday, April 10.

The students in levels 3, 4, and AP Spanish traveled to Washington D.C. where they saw the National Mall, Washington Monument, and the White House.

While in the Nation’s Capital, they visited the National Museum of American History, which is currently featuring a new exhibit on Latino contributions to the American culture.

Students were able to leave with a deeper appreciation for the diversity of the United States and will be displaying some information at the school’s Multicultural Night on Tuesday, May 6.

The students in levels 1 and 2 Spanish will be traveling to Frederick to visit the Cacique restaurant on June 3 where they will get to try paella, a dish from Spain that is composed of rice, saffron, and a variety of seafood or other toppings.

The Multicultural Night takes place at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6 and will be a vibrant showcase of student learning and cultural appreciation.

The theme for this year’s night is “Nature’s Corridors” and invites attendees to travel through four unique corridors, each offering a different perspective: multicultural, artistic, musical, and environmental.

Each space will be filled with student-created projects and performances that reflect their months of learning, collaboration, and discover.

Parents and families are encouraged to attend and participate and school officials encourage people to grab a program at the entrance to locate family members’ name and collect a stamp from each corridor.
