Local students get taste of careers in law enforcement, Natural Resources

Students at Hancock Middle-Senior High School had two opportunities to learn about careers in law enforcement and also working with the DNR.

On Tuesday, January 14, officers from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office visited with local students who had expressed an interest in careers in law enforcement.

Sgt. Jason Willison and Master Deputy Troy Lipinski, the school resource officer, shared details of how to become a police officer and what is like to spend a day on the job.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, students at Hancock Middle-Senior High School were able to learn about careers in law enforcement with Sgt. Jason Willison and Master Deputy Troy Lipinski of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Students from grades 6 through 12 were prepared and asked both officers many questions.

Following the career talk, students were invited outside to tour the contents of Officer Lipinski’s squad car and learn about all of the gear that officers carry.

The following day, Wednesday, January 15, Park Ranger Jacob Doyle of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and is the Manager of the Fort Frederick State Park Complex, visited with students to talk about careers with the DNR.

Doyle talked to students in grades 6 through 12 regarding how to become a park ranger as well as duties and benefits of being a ranger.

The information was presented to students in the Wildlife Management class as well as other students in the school who have expressed interest in DNR careers.
