When the splash pad opens on Memorial Day next season, there will be a new fence around the pad.
Town Manager Mike Faith said he got a quote for a black coated, chain link fence from a company for over the $15,000 limit that would require the town to put the fencing out to bid.
However, Faith did offer officials a cheaper alternative.
Faith said the auction house had galvanized steel fencing that looks like wrought iron, which would be about $70 per panel.
Each panel Faith was describing was seven feet tall and 10 feet wide. The town would need 500 feet, or 50 panels, of the fence. Faith said there are 600 feet available for purchase.
Faith and Mayor Roland Lanehart, Jr. both said the fencing is brand new and never been used.
“If we decide to go that way, we can save the taxpayers a substantial amount of money,” Faith said.
A chain link fence would only be four feet high and wouldn’t be a barrier to keep people out of the splash pad, whereas the seven-foot fence would act more as a barrier and has deterrents on top to keep people from climbing over.
Faith said another good thing about the fence is that you can see through it.
No decisions were made on the fence during the meeting.
