The remnants of Hurricane Debby did in fact cause some damage as she passed through Hancock two weeks ago.
Town Manager Mike Faith told town officials during the August town meeting there was “significant” damage from the storm, namely in Kirkwood Park as the parking lot by the large pavilion was completely washed out and one of the restrooms damaged.
Faith said stone was brought in and the Public Works crew had rolled the lot and finished making repairs to the area.
The restroom by the pavilion was still being worked on with the inmate crew, however one of the inmates got injured so there was a delay. The work was to have been completed last week.
Faith said he had six inches of rain at his house from the storm. Faith lives a block from Town Hall.
He also noted there was a lot of timber that had washed down Little Tonoloway Creek and into Widmeyer Park. It took Public Works about two days to get the timber cleared out.
The timber was sitting in the lot beside the small bridge and if someone wants it, it’s free to take.
“We’d like to get rid of it,” Faith said, “before we have to haul it and try to find some place to dump it.”
