U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa) and his wife were involved in a vehicle crash in the Hancock area last weekend that sent the Fettermans and the driver of the vehicle they hit to the hospital in Berkeley Springs for evaluation and treatment.
According to reports, Maryland State Police responded to the area of westbound Interstate 70 and Interstate 68 just before 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, for a two-vehicle accident.
The accident was located just 12 feet north of the 37.59 milepost of I-70, according to an accident report.
Police said Fetterman, 54, was traveling westbound on I-70 just before I-69 driving a 2021 Chevrolet Traverse that struck the rear of a 2013 Chevrolet Impala while traveling on I-70.
A witness told police that the Traverse passed her at a high rate of speed just before she observed Fetterman’ s vehicle hit the Impala from behind.
The 62-year-old operator of the Impala and a passenger of the Traverse – Fetterman’ s wife — were transported to War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sen. Fetterman said he and his wife Giselle were doing well and happy to be home in Braddock, Pa, with their family.
“Not the best way to spend our 16th wedding anniversary,” the senator said of the incident.
According to a police report provided by the Maryland State Police to national news outlets, Fetterman had been seen driving at a high rate of speed Sunday morning before hitting the other car. The senator was marked as “at fault” in the crash.
Both cars were towed from the scene by Roland’ s Towing, according to an accident report.
The investigation officer for the Maryland State Police was TFC J. Socks.
