Town putting 77 West Main St. out for purchase bid

77 West Main Street.

The building formerly known as Weaver’s Restaurant will be going out for request for purchase bid with a due date of May 10 at 1 p.m.

The Town of Hancock purchased the building and parking lot across the street last year and has set out to sell just the building.

Town Manager Mike Faith said there have been a few inquiries into the property.

Faith said the town had the building out for bid twice. The first time it had to be rebid because of the town. The second time, town officials rejected the only bid they received.

After that, Faith said the town just began entertaining offers, with two people showing interest and eventually a third.

After contacting the town attorney, the town put it back out to bid and told those three people about the request for purchase.

By doing the RFP route, it allows those interested 30 days to get their proposals together, financing if they need it, and “whatever they got to do” for the bid, Faith said.

There have been advertisements on the town’s website and social media pages, Faith said. Packets can be picked up at Town Hall. Advertisements will also show up in The Hancock News and Morgan Messenger, Faith said.

The bids are before the next town meeting and Faith hopes to be able to vote on those bids then.

“I just want to have it all in the open,” Faith said.
