After a rain delay on Saturday, Hancock’s Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt was held at Widmeyer Park on Palm Sunday, March 24, under clear skies.

Palm Sunday is the start of Holy Week, celebrated by Christians around the world, as the day Jesus returned to Jerusalem.

Several hundred people gathered for the town’ s Easter tradition, now going on for over 20 years, sponsored by Hancock Lions Club and Hancock Area Cooperative Parish.

“We do it for the kids,” said one volunteer, explaining it took two weeks to stuff the 3,100 plastic eggs with treats for the Easter egg hunt.

The Easter bunny made his rounds in costumed character, posing for photos in the grassy field, and signaling the starts of the egg hunts for three heats for ages two to 10.

Prize eggs, Easter basket prizes, door prizes, and a bicycle raffle were given away to registered children during the event.

Eden Frasher of Hancock brought her two-year-old daughter Hazel Frashure to the annual community Easter egg hunt at Widmeyer Park on Sunday, March 24. Hazel got 15 eggs in the hunt, according to her mother, who came to the park when she was a child.
