Judge had been a member of the Historical Society and several years ago had been named Historian of the Year.

“He did a wonderful job of documenting Hancock history on film,” Murphy said.

Murphy noted Judge was a common presence at “almost all” the local festivals, concerts, meetings, and other gatherings.

Judge had published a book of his pictures that documented so many activities in a small community like Hancock.

Murphy said the Historical Society chose to honor Judge’ s memory with the birdbath “to help beautify Our Town Hall.”

Murphy first approached town officials during the June town meeting noting Judge as a true photo historian and his pictures would be around forever.

“We all miss him and what he does. At events I look to see if Sam’ s taking pictures because I know they’ ll be on Facebook before I get home,” Murphy said at the time.
