Butterfly tagging event at Cool Spring

The Potomac V alley Audubon Society is hosting a Monarch tagging event on September 14 from 5-6 p.m. at Cool Spring Nature Preserve, located at 1469 Lloyd Road in Charles Town, W.Va. The Monarch butterfly’ s migration to Mexico began in early August, near Winnipeg, Manitoba. The migration peaks in our area the third week in September, so this is a perfect time for Monarch tagging and spending time with family and friends.

This is a family-friendly event, but children should be accompanied by an adult.

Participants should meet at the back deck (just down from the parking lot) of the Nature Center.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, take along insect repellent and drinking water. Tagging supplies and nets will be provided.

Registration is free but required. To register and learn more go to https://www.potomacaudubon.org/event/family-monarch-tagging-at-cool-spring-preserve.
