Panthers drop three games

The Hancock Panthers baseball team dropped two games in as many days losing to St. James at Meritus Park in Hagerstown and at Berkeley Springs.

On Monday, April 20, the Panthers hosted the St. James Saints at Meritus Park in Hagerstown but dropped the game 21-5 in five innings.

Sophomore David Garrett got the Panthers lone hit of the game for the Panthers.

The game was 3-2 Saints heading into the top of the third, but the Saints scored seven times in the top of the frame to break it open. They’d score another seven in the top of the fourth and four more in the top of the fifth.

The Panthers did score one in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fourth.

Other than Garrett’s hit, the Panthers accumulated five walks and one hit by pitch. The Saints committed seven errors to help the Panthers.

The following night, Tuesday, April 21, the Panthers lost a heartbreaker to the rival Indians over in Berkeley Springs 9-8.

Heading into the top of the seventh, the Panthers were down by five and battled back to score four runs and just falling short of the win.

Tyler Clingerman was 1-2 with a two RBI, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Chandler Buskirk was 1-3 with a double, a walk, and two RBI.

Colton Welch, Logan Hendershot, and Bailei Ray each had one stolen base for the Panthers.

The Panthers were scheduled to be part of the Heavy Hitters at Meritus game on Saturday, April 25, however the game was canceled due to weather.

On Friday, April 24, the Panthers traveled to Oakland to take on the Southern Garrett Rams.

The Panthers fell 12-2 in five innings.

Clingerman and Hohn both went 1-3 in the game.

The Panthers next game was Monday, April 27 at Northern Garrett followed by a game at home on Thursday, April 30, against GVCS Broadfording and two road games at Clear Spring on May 1 and at Mountain Ridge on May 2.
