Fire officials are investigating a fire that destroyed a house east of Hancock early Saturday morning.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the call came in at 1:57 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, for a structure fire in the 14000 block of Weller Road.

The fire at the two-story, wood framed, single family house was discovered by the owner of the house.
Fire officials said nine people were displaced due to the fire. Smoke alarms were present, but it was unknown if they were activated.
The two-alarm fire had 35 firefighters from Hancock, Berkeley Springs, and Great Cacapon respond and took 35 minutes to get the fire under control.
No injuries were reported, and the fire officials estimate the fire caused $900,000 in loss.
The primary cause of the fire is under investigation, as is where the fire originated.
The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross, the Fire Marshal’s Office said.
