Hancock’s Helping Hands, a tri-state community outreach program, hosted its 12th annual double drive-thru at Widmeyer Park on Saturday, August 9.
Vehicles lined up in the morning for free backpacks filled with school supplies, along with personal care items, cleaning supplies, and baby care items, all gathered to support families heading back to school.
Dozens of volunteers in matching T-shirts cooked and served hot dogs, escorted vehicles, and sorted supplies for pick-up.
Free snow cones and a bagged lunch were also provided for participants. All were welcome.
Organizer Kristie Stotler said volunteers came prepared to serve 500 people, and they had not run out at the end of the two-hour event.
