For nine months, the welcome center has been closed due to PennDOT installing a new water treatment system.

After the long wait, the welcome center reopened on Tuesday, May 5, at 10 a.m. for travelers.

The center closed July 21, 2025, for the installation of the new system with a projected date of August 24 of that year.

However, there were unforeseen issues with the process where the expected date was to be January of this year.

PennDOT did not give any reasons for the closure lasting into May.
