Eligible persons inside the Town of Hancock limits who wish to register to vote in this year’s municipal election must be registered by this Friday, March 28 at 12 noon. Registration can be done at Town Hall during their regular business hours. Contact the town office at 301-678-5622 for additional information.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot to vote in Hancock’s town election is April 7. A registered voter who will not be able to cast a ballot on Monday, April 21 for the election due to travel, work obligations or medical reasons can request a ballot to be provided for them ahead of time so they can vote.
An application for the absentee ballot should be made by writing to the Board of Election Supervisors, 126 West High Street, Hancock, Md. 21750. The request should include the name and residence of address of the registered voter, statement that the requesting person is a qualified voter and lives at that residence, a statement of the residence address from which the person voted in the last municipal election and the reasons for requesting an absentee ballot. The application can be mailed or dropped off at the Town Office.
On Monday, April 21 voters will choose a mayor and two council members for the upcoming municipal term. Hancock’s mayor serves for two years and council members serve four-year terms.
Hancock Mayor Roland Lanehart Jr. is running for another term as mayor.
Five individuals have filed to run for two open seats on the Hancock town council. On the ballot will be current councilmen David Kerns and Patrick Norris, joined by candidates Preston Hall, Terry Breakall-Smith and Craig Zeiler.
