The Washington County Office of Emergency Management, by order of the Board of County Commissioners, lifted the county wide burn ban on Monday, March 10.
The burn ban was enacted due to prolonged dry conditions and increased fire risk. Recent weather conditions, including increased humidity and rainfall, have improved conditions; however, residents should remain vigilant and take necessary precautions when conducting outdoor burning activities.
Residents are reminded to exercise caution when conducting any outdoor burning and to adhere to all applicable local and state fire regulations. Best practices include:
—Never leaving fires unattended
—Keeping a water source nearby
—If the wind is blowing, don’t burn
—Ensuring fires are fully extinguished before leaving the area
