Senator Mike McKay attended the June town meeting last Tuesday, June 12, and was able to present town officials with some much-needed money for the town’ s revitalization.

McKay told town officials he and Delegate Terry Baker were “very, very proud” to secure $75,000 for the town.

“I could not have done this without Delegate Terry Baker,” McKay said. “It was definitely a team effort in everything we did.”

The town initially applied for $150,000, Town Manager Mike Faith said on Monday.

The original amount was to be used for a continuation of the green, decorative lamp posts along Main Street to make the area more pedestrian and bike friendly.

With the town only getting half the requested amount, Faith said he isn’t sure what the exact scope would be for the money, but he said, for example, it couldn’ t be used to pave the municipal parking lot.

The most likely outcome would be to get the new light fixtures, just not as many.
