Splash pad construction should start in June

by Geoff Fox

A long-awaited splash pad is nearing reality. Hancock Town Manager Mike Faith said the tentative date for construction to start on it should be in about two weeks.

Once construction starts, two crews will be working seven days a week to get the splash pad expedited, Faith said. Local contractors will be used when needed, he added.

The longest part of the construction process would be when contractors pour the concrete pad. Once it’s poured, the pad has to cure for three weeks.

Faith said the pad has to cure properly for the coating on the concrete to last, otherwise, the company won’t guarantee it.

“We can tell them to put the coating on right away, but then we’re going to pay them to do it again,” Faith said with a laugh.

There had been questions on when the splash pad was going to start, but Faith said when you think about it, there haven’t been enough hot days for it to be used this year.

Town officials are hoping that next year, the splash pad will be open from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
