Clean-up at the site of a building collapse last month is continuing as crews from Allegany Wrecking and Salvage have torn down the interior of 55 West Main Street and removing the debris.

About four loads of debris is hauled away each day, due to state and landfill regulations.

The debris is loaded into a trailer sitting along Main Street and taken to the Washington County Landfill, just west of Hagerstown.

There’s still a good portion of the debris to get out of the basement of the building, but the company hopes to have everything completed in two weeks, they said.

Once everything is out of the basement, shale will be brought in and used to fill the hole.

Work will continue through the work week from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with little disruption of traffic.
