Blaze at Flintstone home destroys structure, draws units from region

A fire destroyed a Flintstone house in the 13000 block of Scofield Road on Saturday night, January 20.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, the fire call came in at 11:30 p.m. January 20, for a structure fire involving a single story, single-family residence with an attached garage.

The fire was discovered by a passerby on the rear of the residence in the deck/dining area, the Fire Marshal said.

It took 40 firefighters from Orleans about 45 minutes to get the fire under control. Fire crews from Washington, Morgan, and Fulton County also responded.

The cause of the fire, which did $300,000 in damages, is still under investigation.

Neither resident was home at the time of the incident and they are being assisted in their housing needs by family.

The Fire Marshal said two dogs and several chickens perished as a result of the fire.

Sub-freezing temperatures, high winds, and roadway conditions impacted first responders and their suppression efforts.

Fire crews were out at the scene Monday morning, January 22, for a rekindle.
