Hancock boys’ varsity basketball team couldn’t leash runaway scoring by the Smithsburg Leopards during home play last Wednesday, January 10. Junior Aiden McCarty put 11 points on the board for Hancock and sophomore Ethan Hill added 9 point, with freshman Colton Welch contributing 7. But the Panthers were no match for the ferocious shooting of the Leopards, who are running 10-2 this season.
The following night, the Panthers more than doubled their performance at the basket in play against Turkeyfoot Valley Area High School. Hancock blasted the Rams with 84 points, nearly keeping pace with Turkeyfoot the entire game, but finally fell on the final buzzer, 98-84.
Juniors Aiden McCarty and Jacob Anderson each added 18 points to the scoreboard for Hancock. Senior Ethan Nichols put up 15, seniors Isaiah Demory and Jordyn Kind contributed 9 and 8 points respectively. Ethan Hill and Demory led rebounds for the Panthers during the close game.
Hancock was set to face Union at home on Tuesday night, January 16, weather permitting, travel to Northern Garrett on Thursday and to Paw Paw on Friday night.
