Over 200 gather for annual Lions Club Christmas feast

by Lisa Schauer

The spirit of Christmas was captured at a free Christmas dinner open to the community and hosted by the Hancock Lions Club at the Hancock American Legion post 26 on Saturday, December 16.

Members of the Hancock Lioness Lions Club helped with the turkey, made desserts, and served meals from a buffet set up in the bustling community hall.

Cheerfully greeting each diner, they ladled plates with roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans. Hot rolls with butter, homemade pies and cakes completed the delicious holiday meal.

People of all ages gathered at communal tables, chatting, and feasting in the decorated hall. Girl Scouts maneuvered through the crowd with a beverage cart, serving sweet tea and water.

Organizers estimated over 200 people attended, with another hour left to go for the mid-day event.

Although no one is exactly sure of the year, some estimated the Hancock Lions Club has hosted the town’s annual Christmas dinner since around 1980.

It was enough to make even the Grinchiest get into the Christmas spirit.
