The first annual Festival of Trees at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints this past weekend, Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December 9, was a success.
There were 12 decorated Christmas trees spread out in the church’ s gymnasium ranging from local businesses to various organizations and churches.
The trees were set up December 4 through December 7, with each tree assigned a certain spot in the gym.
Along with the tree displays, there were a number of Nativity displays, a Christmas video, a kids corner with activities for the kids, and a picture booth for selfies.
There was also a ballot where folks could vote on their favorite Christmas tree.
Hancock Lioness Lions Club won on the adult ballot for Best Exemplifies Theme or Mission, Willie’s Primitive Attic won Most Unique, M&T Bank won Best Tree Topper, and St. Thomas
Episcopal Church won Most Festive showing Christmas Spirit.
M&T Bank, whose tree resembled Scrooge McDuck, also won the Kid’s Choice award.
In an email to participants, Event Organizer Wendy Wells said the church is looking forward to doing the Festival of Trees next year and anticipate having more trees and additional activities as well.
