Area historian to talk about new edition of Civil War book

Award-winning author Steve French will be signing the new paperback edition of his book, Phantoms of the South Fork: Captain McNeill and His Rangers on Saturday, March 11 from 1-3 p.m. at the Hedgesville Library.

Just released by Kent State University Press, the nonfiction book chronicles the Civil War exploits of the McNeill Rangers who roamed the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.

The Journal of Southern History says, “In nearly moment-by-moment detail, French presents the group’s various engagements in vivid prose.”

Former Antietam National Park Service historian, the late Ted Alexander wrote, “Phantoms of the South Fork is one of the most important Civil War books to be published in years.”

The Hedgesville library is located at 207 N. Mary Street. The event is free and open to the public.
