Rotary plants field of flags for heroes

by Geoff Fox

The Hancock Rotary once again planted a field of flags honoring local heroes and those people of inspiration in Widmeyer Park.

There were just under 300 flags honoring veterans, active duty military, KIA service members, EMS, police, teachers, loved ones, and more, said January Weber of the Hancock Rotary. The total was 24 less than last year’s display.

Each flag had a tag with a name on it with sponsors paying $5.

“It’ s wonderful to have garnered so much community support for this particular project!” Weber said.

Weber said Rotary used the feedback from last year to keep flags together with the same sponsor to make it easier for them to find their flags.

“With our second year under wraps, we are determined to continue this project,” she said.

Rotary believes it’ s a beautiful display to America on her birthday and a way to both honor and memoralize personal heroes, whomever it may be.

Hancock Rotary planted a Field of Flags for Heroes once again this year with just under 300 flags honoring or memorializing veterans, active duty military, KIA service members, EMS, police, teachers, and many others. The flags were displayed from the evening of Wednesday, June 29, through yesterday, July 5.
