Seth Bivens was the recipient of the Herbert A. Young scholarship. Bivens was presented the award during the Hancock Band’s picnic last month by David Taylor Young and the Young family.

This year’s recipient of the Herbert A. Young memorial scholarship was Seth Bivens and was chosen by Hancock Band Director Susan Mott.
Mott said you could not ask for a better student than Bivens who was extremely dedicated and worked hard for the band as the drum captain and was the salutatorian of his senior class.
Mott also requested the family of Young to provide a picture of their father for the band room and through the help of Leo Murray; a small yearbook photo David Young had, and made into a 13×19 photo and framed for the band room. Young said the picture was taken to Mercersburg Printing to be printed.
The Young family presented the photo to Mott during the band’s picnic in Widmeyer Park last month.
“The picnic was a lot of fun,” said David Taylor Young. “It was clear to see the love and respect these students have for Mrs. Mott. ‘The Band Director.’”
