Herbert Lee Stevens

1932-2026

Herbert Lee Stevens, age 93, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Harmony at Martinsburg while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born October 10, 1932 in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Herbert Gustavos and Mary Elizabeth Lee Stevens.

He was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Baltimore Highlands, Md.

Herbert was a 35 year veteran of the Baltimore and BWI Fire Department.

Mr. Stevens was a choir member. He was an avid collector of Lionel trains.

Herbert is survived by two daughters, Carol Cashwell and husband, Jim of Hedgesville, W.Va. and Becky Damron and husband, Fred of Hanover, Pa.; one son, Doug Stevens and wife, Linda of Baltimore, Md. and three granddaughters, Angie LaPorte, Amanda Gochenauer, Ashley Small and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys May Wentworth Stevens on October 23, 2011.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Greenwood Chapel, 12031 Winchester Grade Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Burial will be in Greenwood Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
