Panthers have “another great showing” at small-school conference championships

Hancock Panthers’ track coach Greg Cartrette said the team had “another great showing” at the 10-team Small School CMC Championships meet in Smithsburg on Thursday, April 30.

The 10-team meet of the A and AA schools in Frederick and Washington Counties is known as the Conference Championships.

Xia Hixon set two personal bests during the Small Schools CMC Championship meet on April 30 in Smithburg. Hixon set personal bests in the 100 m and 200 m dashes.

Several student-athletes placed at the meet and several reached a new personal best in their individual events.

“Each meet, these kids keep showing me the determination they have to get better and excel in their event,” Cartrette said.

Four the younger student-athletes, are participating for the first time and hitting milestones at getting better which is showing in each of them achieving personal bests, the coach said.

Cartrette added he and Coach Brittany Waugh are “so proud” of the athletes on a daily basis for their effort and attitude they’ve brought to practice and each meet.

Landyn Clark too to the air as he placed third in the long jump event and set personal bests in the long jump and high jump at the Small Schools CMC Championships meet on April 30.

Leland Clark placed third in the discus event and Landyn Clark placed third in the long jump.

Setting personal bests were Landyn Clark in the long jump and high jump, Nathan Rhodes in the 100-meter dash, and Xia Hixon in the 100 and 200-meter dash.

The Panthers next hit the track on Wednesday, May 6, at South Hagerstown. It will be the Washington County meet with all schools  in Washington County, no matter the size.
