Sally Patridge Berman
1944-2026
Sally Partridge Berman of Great Cacapon passed away peacefully at her home on April 15, 2026 with her husband Jerry of 48 years of marriage at her side.
Sally was born to Franklin and Lucille Partridge in Maplewood, N.J. on May 19, 1944.
She attended Columbia High School, received her college degree at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania and went on to earn a master’s degree in international relations.
Sally moved to Washington, D.C. where she edited and wrote newsletters. She served as the Publications Director for the Washington Legislative Office of the American Civil Liberties Union.
She met and married Jerry Berman in 1975, who, until his retirement, practiced civil rights and liberties law at a number of non-profit public interest groups.
Sally and Jerry raised a family of three children: Zev Prince Berman, Kristin Bedford and Seth Berman. She is survived by Zev, her grandson Zane Berman who lives in Pasadena Ca., and Kristin who lives abroad. Seth passed away three years ago. Sally is also survived by her older brother and sister, Frank and Emmy who live in North Carolina.
In 1976 Sally and Jerry, attracted by its rural beauty, bought a “get away” river cabin in Great Cacapon, W.Va. They converted it into a retirement home in 2002.
Sally devoted community volunteer time, first as a CASA volunteer (Court Appointed Special Advocates) helping troubled families and later she was a founding member of the Community Alternatives to Violence, a program which educates men in how to avoid family violence as an alternative to prison time. The program has been very successful.
Sally was avidly devoted to outdoor life and went on several Sierra Club and Outward Bound hiking and camping trips.
An accomplished cellist, Sally played with several informal groups in Berkeley Springs. She was a life long reader and participated in a local book club.
Sally attended St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Washington D.C for many years and became an active member of St Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley Springs where she served as Vestry Warden for two terms.
Sally’s remains will be interred in a columbarium at St Mark’s in Washington, D.C. in a private family service.
We expect to gather her friends soon to remember her as a loving mother, wife, friend, artist, and a member of our community.
You may remember her with a gift to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley Springs or to the BlackCat Music Cooperative in Berkeley Springs.
Jerry can be reached by post: P.O. Box 374, Great Cacapon 25422.
