Robert William Gloyd
1947-2025
Robert William Gloyd, 78, of Eighty Four, Pa. died on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at his daughter’s home in Greensboro, Pa. following a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
Born April 1, 1947, he was the son of the late Guy Ernest and Mattie Elizabeth Barker Gloyd.
Robert graduated from Berkeley Springs High School.
He went on to serve in U.S.Army.
Following his discharge, he entered the coal industry and retired as a preparation plant manager with Emerald Coal Company in 2012.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He also loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Hovermale and husband, Rusty, two grandchildren, Cyanna Lilley and Colten Hovermale (Sydney), one great grandchild, Miles Hovermale and one brother, Jerry E. Gloyd.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Louise Rice Gloyd in 2013.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Pastor Dick Voorhaar officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, 4584 Orleans Road, Orleans Crossroads W.Va. with military graveside rites. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Zion Community Church, 4581 Orleans Road, Great Cacapon, WV 25422.
