Maryland’s State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of an early morning fire on Tuesday that killed three Clear Spring adults.
According to fire officials, units from Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company and the surrounding area responded to the 13800 block of National Pike on Tuesday, November 18 shortly after 4:30 a.m. in response to calls about a structure fire.

Firefighters arriving at the scene found the home heavily involved in fire, both on the first floor and the basement of the home. During a primary search of the residence, firefighters found three victims, all of whom were pronounced deceased at the scene. Fire victims included two adult females and one adult male, said Washington County officials in a Tuesday morning press release.
According to Washington County emergency officials, nearly 60 firefighters and support personnel responded to the fire call, including units from Clear Spring, Williamsport, Maugansville, Funkstown, Longmeadow, Hancock, Greencastle and Mercersburg.
Fire crews had the blaze under control by 4:56 a.m., just 25 minutes after the initial dispatch. Fire operations were ongoing at the scene at press time.
A lengthy investigation at the scene is expected among a joint partnership of the Maryland State Fire Marshals, the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division and Forensic Science Division. Fire officials said that investigation is standard procedure for any fatal fire incident.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones impacted by this tragic incident. The responding crews demonstrated exceptional dedication, professionalism, and cooperation under extremely difficult conditions, and we are grateful for their service to our community,” said R. David Hays, Director of the Washington County Division of Emergency Services.
