Raymond “Ray” Telle Luttrell
1930-2025
Raymond “Ray” Telle Luttrell, 95, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and under the compassionate care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born on January 28, 1930, in Hoy, West Virginia, he was the youngest of six children and the last surviving child of the late William Pryor Luttrell and Ida Belle Coates Luttrell.
He was married to the love of his life, Joan Elizabeth Luttrell, who preceded him in death on December 30, 2022. Together they shared 73 years of marriage, a union defined by devotion, resilience and a life centered on family and faith.
Raymond began his career with Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, Maryland, and later continued at Atlantic Research in Alexandria, Virginia, where he served with dedication as a Supervisor in Rocket Motor Component Manufacturing for 18 years until his retirement.
He was a faithful member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, where he served on several committees, including the Greenwood Grove Cemetery Association and he was also active in the Farm Bureau, reflecting his lifelong commitment to community and agriculture. He took great pride in tending a small apple orchard in Southern Morgan County, a cherished family property first cultivated by his great-great grandfather.
Beyond his devotion to faith, family and community, he loved farming and hunting with the “Unger Store Gang”.
He is survived by his son, Raymond Dallas Luttrell; his daughter, Dionis M. Platt, along with Chuck. His grandchildren include Joseph C. Luttrell and his wife, Brigitte L. Luttrell; Kaitlyn E. Platt and Jesse L. Hayes and Sierra N. Waugaman and her husband, Austin S. Waugaman, all of Berkeley Springs. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Elliott Grace Luttrell, Radin Mack Luttrell, Emarie Grace Waugaman and Aurora Elizabeth Telle Waugaman, as well as his sister-in-law, Dorothy Luttrell and many nieces.
His family was his world, the source of his joy and pride and his love will continue to shine through each of them, forever cherished and remembered.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Greenwood Chapel, 12031 Winchester Grade Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Rev. Dr. Dennis Jackman officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenwood Grove Cemetery Association, in honor of his memory and in keeping with his wishes.
