Roger Lee Bivens
Roger Lee Bivens, 79 of Hancock, Md., opened the doors of heaven on July 24, 2026. He was surrounded by his four daughters and eldest granddaughter.
Roger was preceded in death by parents Roger C. and Opal Bivens of Hancock, Md.
Upon entering heaven he was immediately greeted by Jesus. And though he was ready for Jesus he walked behind Jesus to find the love of his life, JoAnn Bivens. She had been waiting for him since 2009.
Roger and JoAnn were married in 1965. Once Roger and JoAnn were finished dancing the Tennessee Waltz, he proceeded to teach her the card game, Shanghi. As this was something he played with his girls daily.
Roger and JoAnn are responsible for more than forty family members. Roger said “see ya later” to daughter Cindy Phillips and husband Jeff, Dawn Souders and husband Darrin, Paula Bivens, Angie Faith and husband Ricky. He was also blessed with many grandchildren, Brian, Brandon and Jordan Phillips, Roger and Mark Souders, Carlos Calderon, Morgan Younker, Michael Bain and Rachel Faith. Great-grandchildren include Caton and Lindy Phillips, Aunna Phillips, Kaylee and Aaron Phillips, Madison Souders, Hunter and Presley Souders, Heath, Claire, Joel and Ryan Souders, Avery Younker, T.J. and Cooper Lawson, Paisley Shives, Matty and Nico Black, Ella and Lana Calderon. Roger also dearly loved spending time with his brother David Bivens and wife Joan, his sister Barb and husband Tom and his sister Diane and husband Andy.
Roger was a forman at R.F. Kline for over 40 years. After retiring from the blacktop journey, he was employed at Woodmont Lodge, Hancock, Md. where he enjoyed working with his peers and meeting “city people.” The moral of his story wasn’t work… it was family and making people laugh.
