Paula Alyce Mabey, 77, of Hancock, Md., passed away peacefully at her home on May 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 12, 1948, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Alice Winkler.

Paula was a dedicated and compassionate educator. She built a career as an elementary school teacher spanning over forty years, touching the lives of countless students with her patience, kindness and uplifting spirit. Outside the classroom Paula was a passionate reader and loved books, keeping a small library of personal favorites. Paula also enjoyed movies, with Titanic and Polar Express as her most watched.

She cherished spending time with family, attending gatherings and holiday celebrations.

She is easily remembered for her thoughtfulness, unlimited patience, joyful spirit, and deeply selfless and kind nature. Through small acts of kindness, Paula always ensured others knew she valued them.

Paula’s love for her daughters was endless, always placing their happiness and wellbeing before hers. Her grandchildren filled her days with joy and she loved them deeply.

Paula is survived by her daughters Tammy Baxter and Megan Mabey-Leach, and their husbands Mark Baxter and Ronnie Leach; her grandchildren, Sydniy Mabey, Eddy Leach and Waylon Leach; her great-granddaughter, Aubriy Mabey; and her sisters, Deidra Baer and Susan Winkler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53-years, Edward Mabey.

A celebration of Paula’s life is scheduled for July 11, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home in Hancock, Maryland.

The family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
