Belva Eugenia Schriever

Belva Eugenia Schriever, age 100, peacefully passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Belva is survived by her five children: Walter (Linda), Lois (Arlen) Morgan, Diana, Maxine (Ralph) Willett and Daniel (Karen) Schriever; 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ada Plessinger; brothers Blair, Cloyd and Elmer; her sister, Fern; her husband, Levearl Schriever, who died in 1999 and an infant daughter, Donna.

Belva grew up on a farm and learned the value of work from an early age. She helped with household tasks such as canning, sewing, quilting, gardening, cooking, making apple butter and working in the barn.

Exceptionally bright, she began attending the Oak Grove one-room schoolhouse before she had turned 5 years old. She was originally sent to school to accompany her older brother, Blair, who didn’t want to go alone. She could recite poems and passages learned in her school years throughout her life. Belva graduated from high school at age 15 ½ and later graduated from Hagerstown Business College in 1947 after completing a one-year Executive Secretarial Course.

In the summer of 1946, Belva started dating Levearl Schriever, a classmate she had known since first grade. Belva and Levearl were married on March 16, 1949, in Hagerstown, Md. and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 25, 1950.

She lived a life centered on faith in her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Belva served in leadership roles in the women and children organizations.

Service was the defining theme of her life. She cared for her parents, siblings and in-laws, all while raising her family, tending a bountiful garden and giving hours to church and community. Her energy, devotion and compassion were boundless. Belva had a deep passion for family history work. She felt a sacred responsibility to preserve the stories of those who came before her. For decades, she researched, organized records and ensured that temple ordinances were completed. Even in her final year, she dedicated hours each day to this work. Her commitment to connecting generations has blessed countless family members and stands as one of her most enduring legacies.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 200 Douglas Street Ext., Hancock, Md. The burial followed at the Jerusalem Church Cemetery in Warfordsburg, Pa.

Arrangements were entrusted to Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750.
