Free Forest Medicine & Tree workshop set for June 27

Wild Potomac will host a free workshop on Saturday, June 27 about tending trees and finding “forest medicine,” all being explored at Hancock’s Widmeyer Park starting at 10 a.m.

Community herbalist Meaghan Thompson-Moore of Blooming Mountains Botanical Sanctuary will teach participants how to make medicine from trees.

The session will begin with an overview of tree care basics from Wild Potomac’s Executive Director Neil Gormley, and then a harvest of some of the plants growing along the creek in Widmeyer Park. Thompson-Moore will then talk about how to make medicine from them, their medicinal benefits, and appropriate harvesting techniques.

Participants will go home with a tree medicine workbook created for the event.

This is one of a series of events Wild Potomac is organizing this year in Hancock – all dedicated to learning about, planting, caring for, harvesting from, and eating food from native trees and shrubs.

Organizers ask participants to register ahead.
