Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation into a tractor-trailer accident that tied up traffic on Interstate 68 in the early hours of Sunday morning, June 7.

According to a Maryland State Police spokesperson, troopers from the Hagerstown Barrack responded to westbound I68 around 1:54 a.m. near the Washington and Allegany county line for a report of a single vehicle accident involving a tractor–trailer.

In the preliminary investigation, police said the tractor-trailer was traveling west when, for an unknown reason, traveled off the roadway and over the embankment. Reports stated the tractor-tailer was engulfed in fire.

Two people were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment for their injuries.

One lane was closed, but the spokesperson couldn’t confirm how long it was closed.

They couldn’t confirm what the tractor-trailer was hauling at the time of the accident.

Fire crews from Washington, Allegany, Morgan, and Fulton counties responded to the scene.

The investigation into the crash is still active and ongoing.
